We have heard a lot over the past few years about jerky treats causing problems. These are primarily jerky treats that are made in China and have been reported to cause vomiting, diarrhea, increased drinking and urination just after receiving the treats. With these symptoms, the two organ systems most commonly affected are the kidneys and the gastrointestinal system. Very rarely neurologic signs can occur.
It sounds like though they have found chemicals and toxins from fungi in the treats, they are still unsure of a specific cause or commonality in all of the treats. Because of this, they still want as much information as possible to find a way to stop these tainted treats from entering the country or at least the mouths of our pets.
The investigators encourage anyone whose pet has become sick to contact the FDA complaint coordinator in your state. This will help their investigation by providing as much information as possible.
Obviously, the best way you can prevent this from happening to your beloved family member is to buy good quality treats and make sure you know where the treats come from.
Just wanted to give another heads up – spread the word to anyone who may not know about this yet!
